Birmingham City gave their survival hopes a massive shot in the arm with a thumping 3-0 victory over Coventry City.

Blues started the day fearing the worst as their dire home loss to Cardiff City in midweek was compounded by victories for relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle and Blackburn Rovers.

So few could have foreseen what was a commanding display from Gary Rowett ’s team as they scored early and answered every question the Sky Blues could throw at them.

A late Bristol City penalty meant Huddersfield Town were denied a win at Ashton Gate which means Blues have moved out of the relegation zone with three games to go.

And few could have foreseen the impact of Rowett’s team changes with Tyler Roberts, Ivan Sunjic and Keshi Anderson recalled to the side. All three played well, Sunjic scored for the first time in two years, Anderson was involved in the opening goal and the much-maligned Roberts produced a sublime pass to set-up Jay Stansfield.

Here’s what Blues fans made of the former Leeds man’s display.

@TheGJRichards: Tyler Roberts had a lot of flak, but he was brilliant today. Also pass of the season for the 3rd, sublime.

@steverose85: Anderson, Roberts, Sunjic, Bielik absolutely superb today Where has that come from after Wednesday? Best display of the season.

@MJones1875: I've been one of his biggest critics, but Tyler Roberts was quality today. At least we have seen that there is actually a player in there now, and hopefully, we can see it more often!

@Forzablues2: Would love to see Tyler Roberts get a goal or two before the season ends. Underrated and gets a lot of unnecessary abuse.

@TomJones1875: Well, I didn't see that coming, what a performance! Some small tweaks to personnel (Bielik in defence, T Roberts back in, both magnificent) & general attitude of team made a huge difference. Plus a bit of luck. Keep that up for the next 3 games & we might have a chance

@gumers009: Tyler Roberts and Keishi Anderson hats off to you both, not played much lately but today you 2 were unreal!

@Jam3s_34: Wow! Night and day from Wednesday’s performance. Every player did themselves proud- so much more assured with Bielik at the back- Sunjic seamlessly replaced him in midfield. Special mentions for Anderson and Roberts- both had limited minutes but excellent.

@Kieranbcfc2: That ball from Tyler Roberts is unreal. Was outstanding today.

Roberts was making just his seventh start and 16th Championship appearance of a difficult first season since moving from Elland Road. Injuries and a lack of opportunities have undermined the 25-year-old’s Blues career so far but he could be finding form at the perfect time.
