Striker Omar Bogle is one of eight players released by Newport County.

But as expected the club have triggered a one-year extension on the contract of top scorer Will Evans.

The League Two outfit are also in discussions over new deals with four players including long-serving Scot Bennett.

Joining target man Bogle out of Rodney Parade are goalkeepers Joe Day and Jonny Mexted, striker Offrande Zanazala, former Penybont midfielder James Waite, Sam Bowen - son of ex-Newport player Jason Bowen - and Harrison Bright.

Evans finished fifth in the League Two goal scoring charts with 21 League goals in his season's tally of 25.

The former Bala Town striker is expected to attract transfer interest as the club enters its first summer under the chairmanship of owner Huw Jenkins.

The club are in new contract talks with utility player Bennett, who has made more than 300 appearances for Newport, defender Ryan Delaney, former Cardiff City player Aaron Wildig and fellow midfielder Harry Charsley.

Newport finished 18th in the League Two table with 55 points.

They defied some expectations by steering themselves well clear of any relegation fears despite debilitating injury problems.

But they ended the season poorly, falling away after putting themselves in the play-off picture by losing their last eight league games.
