Hearts join race to sign in-demand Derby County midfielder

Hearts have joined the queue of clubs interested in signing Derby County midfielder Craig Bryson.

The Scottish Premiership side are wanting to sign him on a pre-contract agreement, according to Derbyshire Live.

Scottish duo Kilmarnock, and Hibernian have also been linked with a move for him in the past. Bryson’s contract at Pride Park expires in the summer and he is expected to move on.

The experienced central midfielder started his career in Scotland with Clyde and went onto play for their first-team in the Scottish second tier before he was signed by Kilmarnock in 2007. Bryson impressed in his four years in the Scottish Premiership.

He played over 100 times for Killie in his first spell there. Bryson then moved to Pride Park in 2011 and has since played over 250 games for them in the Championship.

He spent last season on loan at Cardiff City and was part of Neil Warnock’s side who were promoted to the Premier League but wasn’t offered a permanent deal by the Bluebirds in the summer.

Bryson may have thought his Derby career was over after his loan away but he has fought his way back into the team under Frank Lampard this season. He has played 27 games in all competitions in this campaign, chipping in with two goals.

A return to above the border seems the most likely scenario for him now. Whether that will be to Hearts, Hibs or Kilmarnock is yet to be established.
