Norwich City, Southampton and Bournemouth interested in Shrewsbury Town defender

Norwich City, Southampton and Bournemouth are all interested in Shrewsbury Town young defender Rhys Davies, according to Shropshire Star.

Championship side Norwich City are battling with Premier League side’s Southampton and Bournemouth for Shrewsbury Town young academy defender Rhys Davies.

Rhys Davies has been on trial with Southampton and impressed, and the academy defender is being closely watched by Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth and Norwich City

The Welsh Left-Back signed a scholarship with Shrewsbury Town in 2017 and he made a number of appearances in his first-year as a scholar.

Before Shrewsbury Town, he previously had a spell at Hereford FC where he won the JPL National Cup in 2015/16.

Rhys Davies has appeared for National League North side Nuneaton Borough at the start of the season, he appeared 10 times for them and scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home to Kidderminster Harriers.

And is now currently on loan at National League South Chippenham Town.

Rhys Davies’s dad was a professional footballer and Gareth’s career took in spells at Crystal Palace, where he played alongside current Wales manager Chris Coleman, former FA Cup winners Cardiff City, Reading and Swindon.

Norwich City have an impressive academy and a number of youngsters appear in the first-team, but on Wednesday night Norwich City only managed to draw with Championship strugglers Reading.

Reading’s Andy Rinomhota produced a fine strike in the seventh minute of stoppage time to snatch Reading a dramatic point, after Norwich City had scored twice in the last four minutes to go 2-1 up. But, Norwich City  are still six points clear at the top of the Championship with five games left to play.
