Neil Warnock will remain as Cardiff City manager in the Championship next season after "positive" talks with the board about recruitment to bolster their bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Mehmet Dalman, the club chairman, and chief executive Ken Choo have satisfied Warnock, 70, that funds will be available following their relegation.

"He is the best man for the job, there was never any doubt in my mind," Dalman told BBC Wales. "We all share the same vision. We will give it [promotion] another go."

Owner Vincent Tan had said he wanted Warnock to remain but Warnock, who has a year left on his deal had said he needed  "two or three" players for a tilt at another promotion.

Cardiff have already been weakened by the departure of Iceland midfielder Aron Gunnarsson and loan players Harry Arter and Victor Camarasa. The club is also in an ongoing dispute with Nantes over the £15million transfer fee agreed before the Emiliano Sala tragedy.

Asked if he'd manage in the Premier League again following Cardiff's 2-0 final day win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Warnock replied: "Not a cat in hell's chance."

Warnock previously said he was willing to walk away from Cardiff without a penny in compensation if they sacked him. "It does not bother me about contracts," he said "Because they have never talked about that, but who would they get who was better for the job than me if I was up for it?"
